Slow-code

October 24, 2025

As I strive to keep up with innovation in coding agents, explore spec-coding, or try to apply large language models in less obvious areas, more I find myself craving for space where our new friend does not have access. As every day is filled with attempts to squish more productivity, I need to decompress. These powerful tools require quite different type of attention than a simple code editor, or even an IDE. It's a much higher pace, too.

When working this way, I feel disconnected from the code that I commit. For some of you it might not matter, because the solution is most important. For me, though, the process of creation is beautiful. Out of nothing, words typed into a metal box, compose something that is valuable to another human being.

To keep the joy, I have from now on that one project, where I do not use agents to generate the code. Just the editor, and me slowly typing word by word. Experimenting and making mistakes. Taking it slow. Thoughtfully and holistically, while keeping the mental model in my head.

You should slow-code, sometimes, too.
